Insurance Sales Course

Andrew has recently developed an Insurance Sales Course in response to demand from several of our clients.

Many brokers are now realising the opportunity to earn a very healthy income from adding General and Personal insurance products to their service offering. The only problem is, you need to sell insurance - unlike home loans - people dont usually come seeking insurance.

However, as we all know, insurance is absolutely vital.

There are three things you need to sell insurance:

An RG146 compliant training qualification. Intellitrain have both the full Diploma in Financial Services (Planning) and an RG146 RISK course for those who just want to do RISK (insurance)
You need to be authorised to sell insurance products via either a referral relationship provided through your aggregator or a full/limited advice model through a Dealer Group. Best to contact your aggregator for more information on this.

Diploma of Financial Services (Planning) RG146

Intellitrain are very proud to announce that as of today - Australia Day - we are offering government funded places to the first 40 students who enrol with us in February for the Diploma in Financial Services (Planning).

We were successful last year in winning a tender with the NSW government and have been allocated a limited number of funded places. We are offering some of those places to our clients but have reserved some places for the general public.

You do not need to be a direct employee of an aggregator to be eligible. You can use your RDTI's as proof of a full-time employment contract.

It does not matter if you have any previous qualifications! That's right, this is different to Traineeships/Apprenticeships where you have to be directly employed and where previous qualifications make you ineligible.

Get the full Diploma of Financial Services (Planning) qualification and become RG146 compliant for only $621. The course cost is normally $4340, however, you pay only the equivalent of the TAFE enrolment fee ($621) and government picks up the rest of the tab.

Mortgage and Finance Broker Training

This year has started off extremely busy for us which is great news. Who said there was a downturn?

The key thing this year is going to be your attitude - because it's not what happens to you - its how you react to what happens to you that determines your level of success.

I have spoken to people this year who have already decided that it's going to be bad - and guess what - they're probably right.... they will lose their business to the other guy/gal who has decided that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to grow marketshare - to pick up the business from those who give in and stop trying.

2009 is all about one work - ATTITUDE. What is your attitude going to be? That is the beauty of being human - you get to decide.

Mark Webber Challenge

Intellitrain are proud to support Warren Nicholls who is raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation by entering the Mark Webber Challenge.

The Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge is a grueling five-day endurance event involving trekking, kayaking, mountain biking and some ‘mystery disciplines’ across stunning Tasmania. The Challenge has a mix of amateur competitors with elite athletes & celebrities. This year Mark will race alongside Kangaroos FC legend Glenn Archer & his former teammate Leigh Colbert, Australian Paralympic and World Champion Michael Milton, two local Papua New Guinea Kokoda Trail porters who are direct descendants of the legendary Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels and a host of corporate Challengers.

All participants in the Challenge assist to raise money for the two vital causes that the Mark Webber Challenge Foundation supports; The Leukaemia Foundation and the Save the Tassie Devil Appeal.

Personally, we think that Warren is a mad bastard and probably too fat and old to do it, but we'd pay money to see him collapse at the end of each day's event! In all seriousness, good luck Warren.

Mortgage Broker Regulation

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING LEGISLATION

There has been some conflicting and confusing advise sent out recently regarding the regulation of Mortgage Brokers. I thought I would therefore provide some clarification for you.

Basically the regulation will be in delivered in two phases - aptly named Phase One and Phase 2. I have highlighted the key areas that are relevant to Mortgage/Finance Brokers.

PHASE 1 - KEY POINTS
The government has envisaged that legislation will be in place by mid 2009, it is understood there will be a two year transition period.

Phase One

Phase one legislation to be in place by mid 2009. Key aspects of the Phase One Action Plan:

enacting the existing State legislation, the Uniform Consumer Credit Code (UCCC), into Commonwealth legislation;

establishing a national licensing regime to require providers of consumer credit and credit-related brokering services and advice to obtain a licence from ASIC;

extending the powers of the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) to be the sole regulator of the new national credit framework with enhanced enforcement powers;

requiring licensees to observe a number of general conduct requirements including responsible lending practices;

requiring mandatory membership of an external dispute resolution (EDR) body by all providers of consumer credit and credit-related brokering services and advice;

extending the scope of credit products covered by the UCCC to regulate the provision of consumer mortgages over residential investment properties;

Comments on the key points:

Point 1 = this is simply the UCCC becoming a Commonwealth law instead of state based.

Point 2 = brokers to be licensed - simply stops unregulated people from operating

Point 3 = ASIC to be responsible for enforcing licensing - the government simply wants an existing body to manage licensing and enforcement

Point 4 = Behave responsibly? You do this as part of your adoption of MFAA/FBAA code of practice

Point 5 = As for Point 4

Point 6 = UCCC to apply to residential investment properties to protect consumers.

PHASE 2 - KEY POINTS

Phase 2 Action plan to be in place mid 2010. Key point from this is:

regulation of investment loans other than margin loans and mortgages for residential investment properties;

Note that it says investment loans OTHER THAN mortgages for residential investment properties.

WHAT IS RG-146 ?

Contrary to popular belief - RG-146 or PS146 (as it used to be known) does not necessarily mean you have to achieve a Diploma.

ASIC has written a Regulatory Guide (RG) which applies to the products that it regulates. This guide states the educational and operational requirements for individuals and companies selling those products.

As an example - bank tellers must be RG-146 compliant - as they may sell basic insurance products over the counter. In order to do this, they must complete subjects which are at a Certificate III level. In other words, not all bank tellers must get a Diploma in order to be RG-146 compliant - they simply must meet the educational requirements as directed by ASIC.

Well folks, our stand was pretty good all in all - even if I do say so myself. We received some great feedback from attendees and managed to make a few good business contacts.

Andrew and I presented a topic on the Thursday afternoon entitled "Understanding the Modern Australian Consumer". This was well received and again, we had some great feedback on both the message and the delivery.

This presentation was extracted from one of our Sales Fundamentals course. This basically takes people through the fundamental skills you need in order to successfully sell yourself and your product/service in the Australian today. RPL - Recognition of Prior Learning

We have started to receive a tremendous amount of enquiries and enrolments in our RPL program. RPL is means by which Registered Training Organisations (RTO's) can recognise a persons experience gained throughout their career and throughout their life and map that experience and knowledge against the criteria for the qualification they would like to be awarded.

Typically, the RTO process can be lengthy and complex for students resulting in them giving up and enrolling in the standard course so that they can get it over and done with.

We have therefore worked very hard in order to ensure that our RPL process makes sense to brokers, is simple to follow and cost effective. Currently, we have a 100% success rate in terms of customer satisfaction. That is, all students who have completed our process have been more than happy with it.

Building Rapport - an essential skill

MFAA mandatory Certificate IV Financial Services

Mortgage Broker training is about to get a whole lot busier. With the recent announcement by the MFAA that it is now mandatory to have the Certificate IV Financial Services (Mortgage Broking). Brokers have until mid year 2009 to get this qualification.

What many brokers may not know is that they don't have to go and do a face to face course or an online course, go through assignments and exams all to prove their competence in order to get a piece of paper that says that they know what they are doing!

For experienced brokers, they can simply get 'RPL' for this qualification. RPL stands for Recognition of Prior Learning and is a process aimed at recognising that people's hard earned on the job experience and life experience against the criteria for a qualification. We have been working very hard for the past twelve months to put together a process which makes it very simple and straight forward for brokers to get the Certificate IV Financial Services (Mortgage Broking).

New Online Course

Well, its been over six months in the making, but we've finally finished the online version of our Certificate IV Financial Services (Mortgage Broking) FNS40804.

The online publication of this course actually went hand in hand with the release into production of our new Online Training Platform - itrain. More on that in another entry - but if you're interested click on the link to have a look.

The online Certificate IV Financial Services (Mortgage Broking) [what a mouthful] is based on our newly updated manual. This means that our course is one of the newest (if not the newest) and most up-to-date manuals on the market today.
